We work alongside schools, businesses, community groups, and local residents to deliver hands-on workshops, educational programmes, community events, and practical waste minimisation support.
Our Learning Hub is a place where people can connect, learn new skills, and discover that reducing waste often saves money, builds resilience, and brings communities together.
Every workshop attended, item repaired, compost bin started, or conversation shared helps keep valuable resources in use for longer and out of landfill.

While Mahurangi Wastebusters and Less. Waste share a commitment to reducing waste and creating a more sustainable future, they are separate organisations with different roles in the community.
Mahurangi Wastebusters is focused on education, community, and helping people take practical steps towards reducing waste.
Less. Waste is a separate community recycling centre and second-hand store that helps keep unwanted items and materials in use for longer.
Mahurangi Wastebusters began with a simple question from local residents: “how can we reduce waste and recover more resources in our community?”
What started as community meetings and conversations quickly grew into hands-on action.
From there, Mahurangi Wastebusters Trust was formed in 2017 as a not-for-profit organisation. Over the years they have helped educate the community, support waste minimisation initiatives, and advocated for better local resource recovery solutions.
What began as a shared passion for reducing waste has grown into a thriving community movement, connecting volunteers, schools, businesses, and community groups through practical waste minimisation initiatives.

Trish brings decades of experience in waste minimisation, and community education. She is passionate about helping communities build resilience, reduce waste, and create positive environmental change.
